I suggest trying the following steps to find the part number or manual for your BFM144DQ3-99: If you happen to be in San Diego call me I will diagnose the problem in 30 minutes or it's free. Not the Gardener he is probably why your having problems to begin with. If it is buzzing or vibrating the wiring does not have a short if after testing all valves and all buzz water is OFF. Example: Pin 1 uses a red wire find the valve using the red wire this is zone 1. If all are connected start a zone using the timer listen for a buzzing sound at corresponding valve using the same wire color as in pin at timer. If wires are not connected this is your problem reconnect. Be sure 1 wire from each valve is connected to the corresponding color in the field. Open the timer to expose the wiring check that all wires are secure and take note of the wire color in the pin marked "Comm" or "Ground" should be white could be green. If your sure outlet has power and timer appears to be operating correctly after manually starting each zone at the timer and were directed here after completing #1. If all are tripped and will not reset check circuit breakers. If not, press reset on all until 1 holds then reset remainder problem solved. Press reset if it clicks and holds problem solved. These are in the outlets located outside, in the garage, kitchen and bathrooms with a test and reset button between the plugs. If no power check circuit breakers and reset all Ground Fault Interrupters GFI. If so, test outlet for power using a lamp or any 120V device. Will still show a display but does not operate using battery power. Timers have a battery back-up used to remember settings in a power failure or if power is lost for any reason. If valve opens, close the bleeder and refer to #3.ΔΆ. If it never stops turning it is because it is a gate valve and it is broken with the gate shut. If not turn counter clockwise if it turns continue until it stops it was closed and this was the problem. If handle is round turn it clockwise if it turns it is probably open. If lever is not parallel to pipe it is off turn 90 degrees to the left or right whichever way it turns. Look for a shut-off valve adjacent to water meter, on a white PVC pipe leading from a hose bib at the house or under a 8" round green lid in landscape at grade level. If valve does not open water may have been shut-off. Loosen the bleeder thumb screw or turn lever on valve in open direction or counter clockwise.
